Will the Real Peggy Elliott Stand Up?

What do we know about Peggy Elliott?

  • We know that she is running for KS house in the 89th district, where she’s filed as a Democrat.
  • We also know that she’s been a speaker at a Tea Party rally in Wichita, where she indicated her belief that “welfare is like slavery and free healthcare is no different.”
  • We also know that she wrote about being saddened by the election of President Obama and critical of the black voters who came out in record number to vote for him.
  • The day she filed for office, she changed her party affiliation from Unaffiliated to Democrat, but had previously listed her political preferences as Conservative and Republican on social networking sites. She also voted as a Republican in the 2010 election.

Does this look like a Democrat to you? What else is Peggy Elliott lying about?

We believe candidates should bring a diversity of opinions to our democracy. But, we also believe it is critical for candidates to be honest about their beliefs and values, including their party affiliation. We challenge Peggy Elliott to clarify her positions on issues that are important to Democratic Party voters.

So, Peggy Elliott: Do you support the right for workers to collectively bargain and form unions?

Do you support adequate funding for public schools? Are you interested in helping increase access to health care for Kansans, or do you believe that health care belongs only to those who can afford to pay high premiums? What is your plan to bring living-wage jobs with adequate benefits to the people of Kansas?

Until we hear Peggy Elliott clarify her stance on these important issues, we strongly encourage voters in the 89th district to look to the other two candidates in the Aug 7th primary election.
